THE KINDA LONG STORY

Ernst Koslitsch was born in a small village in the South of Styria. He was the oldest of four.

He knew from very young that he would leave the place one day soon. Even though he loved his family he felt entrapped and wanted more. He started an apprenticeship in Salzburg, arranged for him by an Uncle he trusted.

He then worked in Vienna in Kitchens of high-ranking restaurants and Hotels. Including the Hotel Intercontinental, Fabios, Drei Husaren and the wonderful Zum Finsteren Stern where we met. He also worked on a huge Cruise Liner. Where he saw a big part of the world. He was a really good cook and much loved but within him there was still a hole.

More and more he felt a hunger in him grow. He came to realize that what interested him most was Art. Everything to do with it. Developing his creative skills and letting flow his imagination, reading, watching, seeing and learning.

The Hunger for learning was overwhelming. But what to do next. He had not graduated, therefore he believed that he could not apply to any University of applied Arts. At the age of 24 to go back and finish School, that would take so long and he wanted something to happen now.So he started reading, researching, discussing and working on conceptual photography. Building sculptures and objects that he then photographed and printed. He worked hard. A fellow Student, Nina Dick at the FotoK who liked his work, asked him if he was also applying for the University of Fine Arts next month. He told her that he had not finished School and was unsure what to do next. She in turn informed him that it was not necessary to have a high school diploma to apply if you had real talent.

Three years, later he also applied to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. There he was very fortunate to study under the Artist Monica Bonvincini in her Gender performative arts and sculpture classes. When he finished his studies, we were living in Berlin and I became pregnant.

We moved back to Vienna, the need for family and friends became of great significance. Soon later hunting for an art studio we came across the location on the Aumannplatz. Long story short we decided to try a cafe instead for a while. We were just starting out as a small family and the option just seemed like the more feasible option at the time.  The Cafe gave us a lot. It gave us security, new friends, experience, contacts, we grew.

Ernst thrived. All the impressions, knowledge, experiences had had its effect. When we finally ended the 12 munchies Era, Ernst moved on from Photography and found himself through sculpture and painting.
